Mission
In the complex, decentralized Berkeley advancement environment, Advancement Operations offers a comprehensive suite of systems and services, serving 50 fundraising and donor stewardship programs and 10 alumni relations programs.
The office has five key areas of responsibility. It:
- Acts as the office of advancement policy
- Acts as the office of record for biographic and gift information
- Facilitates the identification, management, and stewardship of campus donors and prospective donors
- Administers the Campuswide Alumni/Development System (CADS) database, which serves as the official source of alumni and fundraising data for reports to internal and external constituencies on behalf of the University
- Implements, manages, secures, and supports University Relations' computing technology
It also offers training to members of the campus fundraising community.
Advancement Operations encompasses five units: Advancement Information Management, Prospect Development, Gift Management, Information Technology, and Network Computing Services.
Units
- Advancement Information Management
- Manages and enhances comprehensive and current data on campus constituents.
- Prospect Development
- Identifies and analyzes donors and prospective donors, and tracks them through the cultivation process.
- Gift Management
- Accepts private donations to UC Berkeley, establishes and manages funds and endowments, reports to donors and organizations, and ensures the long-term use of charitable gifts.
- Information Technology
- Manages and develops the Campuswide Alumni/Development System (CADS) database of alumni and donor information. Supports University Relations staff by implementing strategic computing technologies. Provides CADS customer service through the IT Service Desk.
