Prospect Development
Prospect Development manages information about UC Berkeley's donors and prospective donors with the goal of building lasting philanthropic relationships. The unit provides the campus advancement enterprise with policies, procedures, systems, and research-based information for identifying the best, most likely prospective donors in terms of wealth, inclination, and interests and for moving donors systematically through stages of the fundraising cycle.
Prospect Development:
- Conducts strategic research and analysis to report on existing and prospective donors and identify new prospects.
- Identifies and qualifies groups of prospective donors through data mining and analysis, electronic screening, and predictive modeling.
- Matches prospective donors’ interests to campus programs, and ensures that prioritized prospective donors are included in development officers’ portfolios.
- Assists development officers in building portfolios and in moving prospective donors through the cycle of identification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship.
- Guides development officers through the policies and procedures surrounding management of prospective donors.
- Maintains prospective donor data in CADS.
- Provides tools and reports to facilitate coordination of multiple-interest prospective donors, including performance, analysis, and gift pipeline reporting.
- Provides fundraisers with training and advice.
- Publishes The Prospector, a newsletter that brings new prospective donors who are able to make $100,000+ gifts to the attention of the campus fundraising community
