Prospect Development

Prospect Development manages information about Cal's donors and prospective donors, with the goal of building lasting philanthropic relationships that benefit both the donor and the University.

Through its three departments — Prospect Research, Prospect Analysis, and Prospect Management — it supports fundraising operations by providing donor information from identification through cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship.

Prospect Research and Prospect Analysis
Prospect Research conducts strategic research and analysis to report on prospective donors and inform solicitation strategy. Prospect Analysis identifies and qualifies groups of prospective donors.

The departments help maximize campus efforts to achieve fundraising goals by:

• Providing comprehensive information on donors and prospective donors
• Identifying new prospective donors from publicly available information
• Collaborating with fundraisers to develop solicitation strategies
• Contributing to strategic fundraising planning
• Employing state-of-the-art technologies to facilitate information collection and analysis
• Offering training and resources

Prospect Management
Prospect Management helps the fundraising community by facilitating communication and cooperation, and by providing a record of activity surrounding prospective donors throughout the solicitation cycle. Because many of UC Berkeley's top donors and prospective donors have multiple campus interests, Prospect Management helps to coordinate solicitations and communications from various units.

The department provides complete and current information on prospective donors by:

• Administering policies and procedures related to solicitation
• Tracking the progress of prospective donors through the fundraising cycle
• Recording event invitation and attendance information
• Issuing periodic reports
• Offering training and assistance
