University Events and Ceremonies plans and produces events for University Relations, including events for major gifts, international development, class campaigns, annual programs, and the UC Berkeley Foundation Trustees. The unit also handles Chancellor’s events, including all public ceremonies and campuswide celebrations. In addition, the unit develops donor recognition programs and strategies for University Relations.
The staff is available as consultants to campus fundraisers to assist with event concept development and the identification of appropriate donor recognition gifts. Priority is given to those units currently participating in the New Century Campaign.
The unit distributes a campuswide Fundraisers’ Reference Calendar via e-mail, which covers all of Berkeley’s major donor events and programs. The unit also provides a weekly report of all guest lists for events produced by the unit as well as final guest lists from other campus units. In addition, the unit keeps files on faculty speakers.
The unit produces a campuswide Homecoming, Reunion and Family Weekend for alumni and parents offering a football game, faculty lectures, museum and campus tours, and events for schools, colleges, and campus units.
An event planning manual is available to campus fundraisers and provides resources on event facilities on and off campus, caterers, and other vendors. Information on event planning and evaluation, a timeline for event management, and suggested event protocol are also provided in the manual.
University Events and Ceremonies maintains an inventory of suggested donor recognition gift items, which may be obtained by contacting the office.
