Major & Principal Gifts

The Major and Principal Gifts unit in University Relations raises private support from individuals for campus priorities. The major gifts directors work primarily with multiple-interest prospects in support of the fundraising work of the Chancellor and Vice Chancellor for University Relations, as well as augmenting unit-based major gift activity.

The unit is responsible for raising funds from and providing expertise about a specific market of high-level alumni and friends capable of giving $50,000 or more. The Major Gifts staff also builds relationships between the University and a variety of constituencies who are able to commit volunteer leadership and bring the message of Berkeley’s fundraising priorities to their communities. The unit’s role is to support these volunteers and donors, as well as faculty and senior administrators on campus, and collaborate with unit development staff on campus and other University Relations departments in bridging external interests to internal needs.

In this way, the unit helps to maintain the excellence, accessibility, and reasonable cost of education at the University as well as the diversity and quality of its students, faculty, and staff.
